Cherokee Coalition for Responsible Growth supports responsible growth in cities.
As with Cherokee County, every City development caries cost to the municipality for the services it requires. Cities impose additional taxes on top of County taxes and therefore have additional revenue with which to provide more intensive services such as police and fire, parks and recreation, and some roads.
However, the responsibility for many roads is debated. Highway 92, 20, and 140 are State roads. Cities may add more traffic to these roads with no fiscal responsibility for the additional maintenance or improvement costs the additional development incurs.
Cities are also not responsible for the costs incurred by Cherokee school system for the new students they add. School costs are paid by all Cherokee County taxpayers in the form of property taxes and Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).
CCRG supports growth in cities that follows a coordinated Land Use Plan, allows infrastructure to keep pace, allows construction of schools to keep pace, and does not result in increased taxes.
Simply put, CCRG supports development that pays its own way.
